Selection Policy

As of 30th January 2023, the club is using the following selection Policy;

Following the committee meeting held on 30th January 2023 the following amendment was passed:-

1. Any member that makes themselves available for selection on any given weekend, makes themselves available to play in any of the sides fielded that day (1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th XIs). There is no such thing as a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th XI player. Decisions on which team a member is selected for resides solely with the selection committee

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. all team selections are to be completed and posted on the website by WEDNESDAY EVENING PRIOR TO THAT WEEKENDS FIXTURES (Including both Saturday League Fixtures and Sunday Friendly Matches)

This is to ensure that all those involved know what they are doing, where they are playing and to make sure there is as little confusion and disruption as possible. Therefore it is vital that you have responded to our communications (WhatsApp; website update or text message) if you have been asked for any of the 4 teams no later than Wednesday Evening,

If you have failed to do this, then you may not be selected for that weekend as others who have made themselves available prior to this time will be considered for selection ahead of you. Selection will be based on choosing the strongest 1st XI available, followed by the strongest 2nd XI, 3rd XI then 4th XI. Whist also providing flexibility around seasonal objectives (eg. 3rd XI Promotion).

Our aim is to get every available paid up member a game over the weekend.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The selection committee will use the below policy as a guide for all decisions.

  • The purpose of the selection committee is to select all senior teams representing the club
  • The selection committee shall consist of: a) Chairman of Selectors (chair) b) Four Saturday team captains c) Sunday captain d) vice-captain of a team where the captain cannot attend.
  • It is the policy of the club that for all league fixtures the strongest available XI at the time of the meeting shall be selected by the selection committee with the below considerations:
    • Sides should contain a fair balance between bat and ball
    • Flexibility in selecting players with high potential
  • It is the player’s responsibility to inform a member of the selection committee of their availability prior to the selection meeting.
  • Once selected and informed a player who refuses to play for the team they are selected for may forfeit their rights for future selection and may be subject to further disciplinary action.
  • Should a player drop out the captain of the selected team should select a player from the team immediately below. Where the 4th XI are concerned they should select from any available club members.
  • If a player is unavoidably unavailable after selection the captain of the team should liaise with the captain of the side immediately below that team to select a player to replace the withdrawn player.
  • Such changes should, wherever possible be on a like for like basis; i.e. if a bowler withdraws, a bowler from the team immediately below should be chosen.
  • If a player is taken into the side above (e.g. 2nd XI into 1st XI or 3rd XI into 2nd XI) to replace a withdrawn player they should fulfil their normal role; e.g. If a batsman withdraws from the 1st XI the form batsman in the 2nd XI should move up and bat in the top 6 and not at no. 8 or 9.
  • If a player is not performing in the team for which they are selected for a period of time and a player is achieving in the same role in the side below, the non performer should be dropped and replaced by the player in the side below until such times as the situation is reversed.
  • Any player, who is dropped from the team they represented the previous week, will be spoken to personally by the relevant captain on the night of selection or at the earliest possible time. Players should under no circumstances whatsoever discover that they have been dropped by any other means.

Thanks
