WCC U10s Win Finals Day

27 Sep 2017

The WCC U10s who were crowned county champions this year, were awarded their trophy by England's Alistair Cook last Friday at Shenley Cricket Centre.

Led by super coach Geoff Playle the U10s beat North Enfield to seal their victory on finals day, match report below:

The final of the U10's incrediball was between Wheathampstead and North Enfield, following hard fought wins in the semi-finals v Rickmansworth and Chorleywood respectively. Wheathampstead won the toss and batted first in the final. There were contributions all the way through the batting line up as Wheathampstead totalled 290/5 from their 16 overs. Alex Bhutiani and Marco Rodic both passed 20 with the bat, whilst Herbie Willson, Harry Brandt and Bobby Mounsey also scored well. Bertie took two great wickets for North Enfield in the first three overs of the game to get them off to a great start. North Enfield were also lightening in the field and were working really hard in the first few overs to tie Wheathampstead down.

When North Enfield batted they lost a steady flow of wickets chasing down the Wheathampstead score and came up short despite a spirited blast from Oliver who took 18 from one over trying to get his team up to the winning score. In the end tight bowling by Herbie Willson, Bobby Mounsey and with 2 wickets apiece settled things. These bowlers were also helped by tight spells by Dan Mountain and Freddie Playle and Wheathampstead got home by 39 runs.
Captain Scott Robson Smith lifted the trophy for the delighted Wheathampstead team, the first time the colts section at this club has won any silverware, so a day to remember for all.
