Dear Members,
With the first game of the season completed this afternoon
(Sunday XI away vs Chorleywood) a quick update on Cricket at Wheathampstead.
A few admin points: -
- The broken ramp is being refurbished from
tomorrow. Access to the clubhouse is likely to be limited for the next 10 days
or so.
- Net matting has been repaired and we have new
canvas screens at the batters end. Please ensure no studs are worn and all
colts are wearing full safety gear.
- League Match Availabilities: There are still
many many members who haven't filled this out. You will not be selected if the
captains do not know you are available.

- All fixtures are now the website (inc colts
games).
- Limited bar service may be available on match
evenings/days. Outside service only.
I now want to take this opportunity to introduce the
Wheathampstead Player Pathway.
WCC Player Pathway 2021.pdf
After many years of mixed success, we find
ourselves in a strong position as a club and I hope the start new era. We have
a solid membership and thriving colts section.
With this framework we intended
to ensure that that continues into the future in a sustainable way.
OBJECTIVES
- To establish a fluid pathway that is capable of
delivering sustained success for both colt and adult teams.
- Develop and produce local cricketers for the
club.
- Create a legacy that will secure the club’s
future.
- Develop technical, tactical, physical and mental
skills through the love of cricket.
- Help to retain younger players after U15 cricket
ends.
- Young players to be challenged and play the best
standard of cricket available.
Now, this Pathway is not just a few slides, for it to work
there has been - and will continue to be - buy in and collaboration from all
the senior captains and colt's coaches.
The pathway is not a set of ridged
rules to determine who plays where and when, but a guide to get the best out of
the players for themselves and the club.
It is likely there will be changes in
the approach we take to some selections (e.g. Some players may find themselves
no longer in their 'usual' side), however with the extra Saturday XI,
Sunday
cricket and midweek games there is a huge amount cricket and we will always endeavour
to get everyone available a game.
It is also worth mentioning that this pathway is not set in
stone, but the first iteration of a flexible approach to development at the
club.
With particular thanks to Eamonn and Quentin for all their
work in initiating and developing this plan.
Enjoy a successful 2021 season!
Cheers
Jimmy
