Wheathampstead Cricket Club News story

Weekend Preview - 18th & 19th May

17 May 2013

This weekend the club will field 4 teams for the first time in our history. Not only will we field 4 teams but the Sunday 1st XI will play the National Village Cup 2012 Champions Reed as they look to progress in their journey to Lords.

1st XI

After picking up their first win in Division 2 in style against Radlett 2nd XI last weekend, the 1st XI host top of the table Botany Bay at Nomansland. With overcast conditions forecast, the game will be an interesting one, with Wheato looking to bag their second win of the season.

2nd XI
With a superb win against Clifton last week to go top of Division 6, the 2nd XI travel to Redbourn 2nd XI  in a derby match early on in the season. Jimmy McEwen's men will be looking to continue their great start to the season and pull away from the rest of the league.

3rd XI
After having their match against Baldock 3rd XI rained off last week, Richard Hodgson and his men will welcome Northwood Town 3rd XI to Kimpton. Having won their first game, the 3rd XI will look to gain maximum points at home and move forwards in Division 13.

4th XI
For the first time in the clubs history, the 4th XI will take to the field lead by stand in skipper Gary Mardle. The Division 14 campaign will start with a trip to face Hitchin 4th XI.

Sunday XI
Having beaten Eversholt in Round 1, Wheato face 2012 National Village Cup Winners Reed at Nomansland. Wheato will look to replicate Reed's achievement of a trip to Lords last year but will have to put in a decent performance to gain a win.
