Beerpong Result: Wheathampstead 8 - 13 Harpenden

11 Jan 2011

Wheathampstead's 10 men team fell to a devastating 13-8 loss to Harpenden CC in the first 'Ryder Cup of BeerPong' event at the club. In a hugely successful, messy, loud evening which saw much banter between the two local rivals... and 21 action packed matches... the 2 teams battled through 2 doubles games each and a singles match.
It was Harpenden scored who opened up the scoring, notching up the first point in the 1st round of matches (much to the appreciation of the squad) but with a Richard/Louise & Robbo/Luke win, Mark and Tim seemed to have secured an early 3-2 lead at the break only for team Cloudseley/Winchester to claim redemption and go onto win the match. Cue chanting and 'You're not singing anymore!'.
In the 2nd round of doubles, the Ryder Cup Captain Richard Winchester decided to stick with the same pairs, whilst Harpenden's captain Adam mixed his pairs up. This decision backfired for R. Winchester as they went down 4-1 in the round playing some poor Beerpong. The pressure clearly getting to his squad. Trailing 8-3 going into the singles matches it was always going to be hard as Harpenden were just 4 short of the winning post.
Early wins in the singles gave Wheato hope but as Adam Winchester secured a maxiumum points hall for the night, Joe Peck secured the winning shot against a valiant Tim Kiek.
The match of the night was still to come as Louise Blay came back from 2 redemption shots to win her singles match and  add some respectability to the scoreline, herself, Richard, Dillan and Robbo securing 2 out of their 3 points for the night.
Many thanks to those of you who turned up, it was a great night and everyone there is already badgering me about a rematch... this will be in Early April!!! We cannot let them win again.
