After beating Radlett 2nd XI last weekend, the 1st XI were in high spirits going into the game against Botany Bay. After winning the toss and choosing to bowl in overcast conditions, fantastic spells from Nick Martin (4 for 49), Chris Strivens (3 for 23) and Mitchell Futcher (2 for 50) saw Bay bowled out for 183 and tea was taken with the game even. Mark Winchester and Luke Samarasinghe fell cheaply to the opening bowlers but Adam Winchester stayed throughout the innings to try and see Wheato home but with partners coming and going in quick time, the overs ran out and so the run chase fell just short as Wheato had to pull out on 162 for 8 with Winchester on 95 not out. Next week the 1st XI travel to Northwood as the look to take the full 30 points on offer and pick up their second win of the season.

2nd XI (157-9) drew with Redbourn 2nd XI (228-6):

Jimmy McEwen's 2nd XI traveled to Redbourn 2nd XI looking for their third win in a row but put in a below par performance that saw them come up well short in the run chase. Having won the toss, McEwen chose to bowl but only Keith Martin (3 for 41) bowled tightly as Redbourn racked up 228 for 6 off their 53 overs. The run chase started well with Dave Dabare (28) and Eamon Keane (31) sharing a 40 run partnership but Wheato lost wickets at important times and had to grind out a draw, falling 71 runs short. Next week the 2nd XI welcome Northwood 2nd XI to Nomansland as they look for their third victory of the season.
