The 1st XI suffered their first defeat of the season after coming up against a strong Kings Langley side. With a damp, but drying pitch, Wheato lost the toss and were put into bat and had soon lost openers Richard Winchester and Luke Samarasinghe cheaply to a fine spell of bowling from Mark Brazier (5 for 63). With wickets falling around him, captain Adam Winchester batted throughout the innings to score his first hundred of the season, finishing on brilliant 111. Winchester was given great support from Chris Martin (35) and their 110 run partnership helped Wheato reach a competitive 185 for 7 off their 53 overs. Throughout the afternoon the sunny conditions helped the wicket to dry out and the Wheato bowlers couldn't find the early wickets they were looking for on a flat deck. A superb second wicket partnership of 159 between Australian Leslie Brown (100*) and Simon Walker (69) proved too much for Wheato as Langley passed the score with just 2 wickets down. The 1st XI travel to Baldock next week as they go in search of their second win of the season.
2nd XI (187 AO)
beat
Kings Langley 2nd XI (128 AO) by 59 runs:
A. Halford 57, S. Ledger 41, S. Booth 5 for 24 & J. McEwen 3 for 31

Having been put into bat, captain Richard Hodgson scored a fine 86 with Dave Stevens scoring 66 not out to help Wheato post 213 for 3 off 40 overs. A devastating spell from Chris Dilks saw him bag his second 5-for of the year as he finished with 5 for 22 and with Geoff Playle picking up 3 wickets, Leverstock Green were bowled out for 168 to give Wheato the 30 points. In second position in Division 13, the 3rd XI travel to Shenley Village 4th XI next week.

Ward then took 4 for 43 and Patel 2 for 18 as Knebworth managed to hold on for the draw with 9 wickets on the board.
